Heat Wave was founded in 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona - a hotbed of agility and vast untapped flyball resources. The dogs trained up quickly and the club entered its first tournament in February of 2002. Heat Wave was the first competition flyball team in Phoenix. Today, Heat Wave boasts four regional championships (2006, 2007, 2008, & 2009) and dogs ranked in the top 100 of their breed with NAFA. We also have had two Region 6 MVPs, Jazz and Jenna. Because of our mentoring efforts, there are now four other flyball teams in the Phoenix area.
Heat Wave is a competitive team which relishes the comraderie and competition of a tournament. We try to win whether it's in Division One or Division Three or Four. We regularly travel out of town for tournaments. We train as a team, all dogs benefit from the assistance of the entire team when training. Our members also enjoy hanging out together and we try to schedule several potluck get togethers during the year.
All of the dogs on Heat Wave are companions and family members first and racing dogs second. Many of them have their Canin Good Citizen titles and many of them have dabbled in the venues of therapy, agility, rally obedience, dock diving, conformation, Jack Russell games, lure coursing, and disc dog. If you enjoy team sports and travel, this may be the team for you.
